Canterbury Hose Sooiety,

At the annual general meeting of the Eose, Society, held oa Tuesday evening, the Chairman (the Eon E. C. J. Stevens) presentad a report, accompanied with a statement of accounts for the year. The committee congratulated the members on the very fair success which had attended their efforts to promote rose- growing in Canterbury during the past year. It was gratifying to know that since the establishment of the Bociety, there waa evidence that the interest in rose-growing had don'siderably increased. The committee, recommended that especial attention should be given to inducing all amateurs who had a small number of roaeo to bririg forward their blooms for competition. Tiie committee bad carefully revised the official catalogue of exhibition rose?, and had made the following additions and alterations : — Hybrid Porpotual*-— Baron Wolseley, Caroline d'Arden, Duke of Albany, Egeria, Lord Macaulay, Louies Pejronney, Mdme. • Prosper Langier, Margaerite Dombrain, Paul Verdier, H.C.; Spenser, William Warden. Hybrid Teas— Dake of Connaught, Eeine Nathalie- 1 %' Serbia. Teaß— Jean Pernet, Mdme. Cusirf, Marie Gnillot, Medea, Mrs C. Guilfoyie, Priucesß Beatrice, Reverend T. C. Colj^ Waban. The following varieties had been excluded from the catalogue :— Mrs Baker And Monsieur Purtado. Thebalance-Bheelr pbowed the receipts to have been .£BO lls 6a, and the expenditure £24 Oa 7d. The' report and statements of accounts werji unanimously adopted. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows^— j President, his Honor Mr Justice Denniston ; Yice-preaidenta, Hon E. 0. J.
