A number of men who had been engaged in Sydney to fill vacancies in the boot factories have joined the strikers, and the factories are almost idle. The strikers are stiU in a strong financial position.
A deputation of labour members and representatives of the Workers' Union asked the Government to abolish the present system of contracting for public works and allow the work to be done by gMgs of men on the co-operative principle. The Minister promised' to make inqui rieß into the matter, ' V
