THE EDWARDS CASE.

A telegram from Wellington says that Mr W. B. Edwards has published correspondence between himself and the Government respecting the circumstances of his removal from the Judicial Bench and the loss he incurred thereby. In a letter dated May 16 he asks for an inquiry into the whole matter, and suggests arbitration. The Board appointed to consider the Midland Railway question wonld be a tribunal in every way qualified to deal with hie case. He lays stress upon the fact tbat he only wants an inquiry, and does not ask the Government to enter into any engagement binding the colony to pay the amount of hia loss, when ascertained. On May 28 the Government replied that it did not propose to take any action in the matter. On June 6Mr Edwards replied to this refusal, Baying that he scarcely anticipated any other answer after the repeated refusal b he had met with, but sooner or later he doubted not the measure of justice which, since 1892 he had asked for in vain would be accorded him.
