At Lyttelton yesterday a strong notthnorth- east wind <waß blowing all day, and aa the streets were very dry, through lack of rain, the dust was carried about in dense clouds. During the afternoon the Coonoil's water-cart waa out, and did good work in damping the atreetß, a necessity which is decidedly unusual at this time of the year. — Our Ashburton correspondent writes:— A utrong nor'-west wind blew at Ashburton all Monday night and Tuesday morning. The wind dropped coon after midday rta Tuesday, and a heavy nor'wcflc shower,, which lasted for an hour, gave everything , a good soaking. For a tortniglit previously the weather had been remarkably tine, for the eeason of the year— so mild that the grasß has grown rapidly, and sheep and stock of all kinds are looking well. A large acreage of wheat baa already been sown in capital condition. .
