St. John Ambulance Association.
The usual monthly meeting of the committee took place yesterday afternoon in the City Council Library j present— Dr -Hacon (in the chair), Mesdames Hacon, Hnlbert, Julias and Nashelaki, Misses JSowron and Pheney, the Daan, Messrs Jekyll and S. D. Barker (honorary eecre- : tary). Apologies for absence were received from Mesdamea Caro and Kinsey, the Mayor, Captain Garsia and Mr Manning.
The Secretary reported the program of the Cbriatohureh and Avonside classes, whioh were muoh larger than usual. The horse ambulance bad been uaed foot times since last meeting, twice in removing invalids and twice in taking bad fracture caaea to the hospital. Both, patients and medical men had testified to the excellence of the conveyance for the purpose. It Bhould be impressed on the public that all requests lor the service should be addressed to Mr Q. Fuller, Chester Street Fire Station, to ensure prompt attention. One invalid had been removed to the hobpital on the litter. The Lowmoor jacket attachment to stretchers, a present from Dr Hacon, had j arrived from London, and would be stationed at Lyttelton. A contribution to the funds of the Association had been received from the O'Connor and O'Neill Committee per Mr (stapes. Correspondence was read showing that branches promising very good work bad Veeik formed at &.Bh\>wctot>, Southbtidge 'And Leeston, and a branch was about to be formed at Hastings. The Nelson centre had applied for books and advice with respect, to obtaining a wheeled litter. The Minister of Bailways had directed the refund to the Association of railage on tbe horse ambulance. Her Majesty the Queen had been pleased to sanction the enrolment of Dr Hacon as an honorary associate of the Order of Sb John of Jerusalem, an recognition of his service* rendered to the work of the New Zealand centre of the St John Ambulance Association, and the insignia would shortly arrive and be presented to him. '
On the motion of the Secretary, seconded by Dr Haoon, the President and Secretary of the Canterbury Branch of the New Zealand Medical Association and the Matron of the Ohristohuroh Hospital were elected members of oommittee, ex officio. A resolution was passed authorising the Treasurer and Secretary to sign cheques.
Accounts amounting to £32 9s were paased for payment.
