LYTTELTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The fortnightly meeting of the above Council was held last evening ; present— The Mayor, and Councillors Stineon, lllingworth, Webb, Radcliffe, Owen, Brice, and Lawrenson. Correspondence was read— From the Resident Engineer New Zealand railways calling the attention of the Co?:ncil to thg necessity of repairs to the Council's private Biding at Heatbcote Valley. Referred to the Water Supply Committee with power to act. From Mr Joyce, M.H.R., with reference to the proposal to obtain assistance to the construction of public baths. The letter waß received. From Mr T. H. Hatton calling attention to ths necessity of keeping a drain through his property clear. Referred to the Sanitary Committee with power to act. From the Secretary of the New Zealand- Fire Insurance Association, stating that owing to the unsatisfactory condition of insurance affairs, the Association was obliged te discontinue the übusl subsidy to the Fire Brigade. The letter was received. From the seoretary of the Fire Brigade, applying for bars and certificates for members, to cost £2 12a. The Fire Prevention Committee was authorised to act. From the Lybtelton Rowing Club, thanking the Council for the use of the chamber. The report of the Special Committee appointed to consider the matter of a look ward in connection with the Christchurch Hospital was adopted as follows :— *' That this committee recommends the Council to support the Hoßpital Board in any Btepa which it may take in the direotion of establishing a lock ward in connection with the hospital." The Finance Committee recommended payments amounting to .£172 83 10<i, and reported receipto since last meeting aa £218 133 Id. The report was adopted, i The report of the Eetates Committee on \ the annual inspection of reserves was received. The report of the Sanitary Committee was read and adopted. The report of the Foreman of Workß detailing how the men had been engaged during the fortnight was received and adopted. The engineer at the pumping station in his report stated that the average number of hours pumping for the past four weeks had been fifty-four, as against fifty-two for the corresponding period last year. The report was adopted. It was resolved that a letter of condolence should be sent to the family of the late Mr J. Thompson. After some minor matters had been dealt with, the meeting terminated.
