The Late Mr. A. J. White.

At the dose of vespers at the ProCathedral, Barbadoea Street, last evening, Miss Funflton played " The Dead March in Saul " out of respect to the late Mr A. J. White.

The remains of the deceased were taken to the Pro-Cathedral thia morning, where, at 10 a.m., a solemn requiem maßs was hpld for the repose of his soul. The building, which was draped in black, was crowded to the doors, a large number of leading citizens being present.. The Bight Be y Dr Grimes, celebrated the Pontifical Bequiem Mass, which was sung to " Gregorian music ancient plain song." The officiating priests were, the Rev Father Foley, Deacon at the Shrine; the Eev Father Marnane, De&con of the MaB8; : Eev Father Malone, Subdeacon } ; the Eev Father Cumminge, Vicar-General acting as- assisting priest ; and the Eev Fathers Ginaty and Salvador also took part. The Rev Father Galerne assisted Mr H. H.. Loughnan in conducting the choir,, which was considerably strengthened,, and during the offertory Mr Loughnan. sang "Jesu, Redemptor Mundi." The bishop preached a most impressive sermon from the text, " But Is would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep j. that ye sorrow not, even aa others that have no hope," in which he referred feelingly to the loss sustained by the church and the community by the death of Mr White. In concluding, he urged all to follow the example set by the deceased both in his devotion to his church. and his actions in business. The body, which is encased in a boho 1 oak coffin, covered with beautiful floral wreaths and- crosses, remained in the church until 2 p.m., when it was taksn to | the Linwood Cemetery, followed by a large : concourse people.
