RICCARTON.

The ordinary meeting of thiß Board was held on Monday; present-Messrs Hall, Nunweek, Boag, Jackson and Derrett. On the motion of Mr Jackson, seconded by Mr Boag, Mr H. J. Hall was unanimously elected chairman for the ensuing year The following correspondence was read':— From the Chairman of the Chrißtchuroh Tramway Company, Limited, in reference to the necessity for regrading a portion of the Lincoln Road before laying the tram railß. It was resolved—" That the Riocarton Road Board declines to vote any sum for regrading the Lincoln Road." From the Secretary of the SouthWaimakariri River Board, forwarding special order for levying the river rate for the current year. From the Secretary of the South Waimakariri Biver Board, in reply, Btating that the gate on the road crossing the river-bed would be erected according to the Aot. From Mr F. Powell, of Ashburton, and the Ashburton Drug Company, quoting price of poisoned wheat. It was resolved to order four bushels from the Drug Company as a trial sample. From Mr H. O. D. Meares, suggesting that a notice board, with the name of the road, should be erected at the corner of Hanmer'e Road; also pointing out the neceßBity for some lamps on the Fendalton Road. It was resolved to reply that the Board wonld erect the notice board at the junction of Hanmer's and the fendalton Koad, but could not see its way to erect lamps at present. From the Gas Company, in reply, stating that as the residents on ihe Fendalton Road declined to become consumers of gas, the company regretted not being able to lay mains to the junction of the eaid road with Clyde Road. From Messrs Brown, Bell, Croll, Ruddenklau and others, asking the Board to change the name of Pigeon's Lane to Clarence Road and to erect a notice board at the corner of the said road.- The Board decided to comply with the request. It was resolved — " That the Riccarton Road Board, having considered the Bill entitled the Local Bodies Loans Conversion Bill, 1894, which was introduced last session by the Honourable Colonial Treasurer, and whioh (the Board is informed) is to be brought before Parliament dnring the ensuing session, is of opinion that any Act which will enable the Chriatchurch Drainage Board to convert its present .£200,000 6 per cent loan to one at a lower rate of interest, and also enable the Sinking Fund of the said Board to be abolished, will be beneficial to the interests of the Riccarton Road district, and that the Government should use every means to carry such Bill." Mr Nunweek brought under the notice of the Board the condition of Gardiner's Road, and it waß resolved that a committee of the Board, with the Surveyor, should inspeot this and other roads in the neighbourhood, with a view to their improvement. The Board took into consideration the rate to be levied for the current year, and after considerable discussion it was resolved to levy a general rate of one halfpenny in the pound, to inolude tbe hospital and charitable aid rate. Ab the result of the ballot taken, Messrs Hall and Nunweek were appointed to retire at the end of the current year. The Surveyor's report on the works in progress was read and approved. After paasing accounts and transacting routine business, the Board adjourned.
