KAIAPOI v. MERIVALE.

This game was looked forward to with lunch' interest, which was, however, .rapidly destroyed through accidents #p the Merivale players. Kaiapoi had the Wind in their favour at the start, and the first line-out saw the retirement of A. Menzies with a sprained ankle. A lot of centre* play was noted, and P. Menzies left the ileldwith a broken collarbone. After this the Eaiapoi forwards took the npper hand, and Merivale, short-handed as they Were, had a bad time. A lot of play on Aferivale's line followed, till Cook and Jobnstone broke away, and Merivale came tery near scoring. Austin was damaged Boon afterwards, and was compelled to retire in the middle of the second spell. 3Rb score was made until the end of the ■pell, although the Blneß had the worst of the play. Merivale fought pluckily in the second spell, but towards the end broke down, and Oram scored a couple of tries and Bobilliard one. Lynskey and Templeton each converted a try, and the game ended with Eaiapoi thirteen points ahead, after a very creditable exposition of defensive play nnder adverse circumstances by the losers.
