The Petroleum Works

J I NEW PLYMOUTH, Mat 81. i Large numbers of persons are visiting : the petroleum works to ccc the oil being I pumped, and syndicate share of JBIOO are : being taken up liberally. It is said that ! a company with a capital of £50,000 [la to be formed in Sydney. The ; present well yields from thirty to forty barrels (of forty gallons) a week as it at present stands. But for the water it would be more. It is proposed to sink at once a well at Omata, which is expected to tap the oil reservoir. Mr Pair, the oil expert, says the crude oil as pumped up is worth fifteen shillings per barrel. The oil is like the Indian, but is of better quality. Ib coniains 75 per cent of pure paraffin.
