Baneiora School Committee.

The monthly meeting of the above committee was held yesterday evening, Mr B. Ball in the chair. The master reported the roll number to be 427, and the average attendance for the past week 845*8. The names of two children who had not attended the required number of times were given, and it was decided to proceed against the parents in the Magistrate's Court if the preliminary notice was not effective within a fortnight. The inspection report of Mr Ritchie, which was highly satisfactory, was read. Confirmation of Isabella Blaokett'a appointment as a pupil teacher was received from the Board. A circular wan received from the Progressive Liberal Association, embodying proposals providing for t?he election of the Board of Governors of Canterbury College on a wider representation. It was resolved that while in entire sympathy with the movement the committee was not prepared to commit itself to either o! the proposals submitted, but preferred to await the remit of the previous recommendation which had been brought under the notice of the member for tbe district;. Of the two proposals submitted, however, the committee was of opinion that the eecond one was preferable. The chairman and Messrs Boyd and Foater were authorised to sign,' cheques ; and Meßura Marshall and Boyd were appointed a Visiting Committee for the month.
