A. meeting of the committee of the Canterbury Eugby Union vas held at the Clarendon Hotel last evening; present — Meesrs I" A. Cuff (in tho chair), W. J. CotteriU. G. H. Mason. H. -Frost, F. T. Evans, T. Buntin, F. E. Asquith, .W. G. Garnard and Dr Jennings. The Treasurer reported that only three teams had entered for the Thursday Flag competition. On the motion of Mr Mason, seconded by Mr CotteriU, it was resolved to abandon the competition for this season. The Aibion Club wrote Btating that three members who had not paid their last year's subscriptions had joined other clubs. The Secretary was instructed to obtain particulars, and report. on the matter to next meeting. In reply tc the Secretary, the commiteee decided that in a match players must wear the colours of their own club.

The Secretary of the Otago Rugby Union wrote thanking Mr Garrard for his fcervices at the annual meeting of the Dew Zealand Union.

It was reported that a prominent member of the Eaet Chrifitchureh Club had played for the Merivale Club on Saturday last without giving notice to the East Christchurch Club that be intended to do so. The committee decided that it could not deal with the matter at present.

Letters were read from the New Zealand Rugby Union, stating that the Canterbury Union'd proportion of the levy made to clear off the deficiency on last year's balance-sheet was £6 143 2d ; that the disqualification of the Treasurer cf a country club in the North Island was in force throughout the colony so far as football was concerned ; and that the disqualification in regard to acting as captain of a representative team imposed upon William M'Kenzie, of Wellington, had now been removed.

The letters were received, and it was resolved to forward the amount. asked for immediately.

The grounds and referees for the senior matches on Saturday were arranged aB under : — Eest Christchurch v. North Canterbury, at Lancaster Park, referee Mr Labatt; Linwood V.Canterbury College, at Lancaster Park, referee Mr Cotterill j Kaiapoi v. Christchurch, at Kaiapoi, referee Mr Evans ; Merivale v. Sydenham, at Sydenham Park, referee Mr Soper. The meeting then olosed.

A match between the Temuka and Waihi Clubs was played at Temuka on Saturday, and reßulted in a win for Waihi by twenty points (four goals from tries) to nil. The Waihi forwards were far too heavy for their opponents, and the backs had little to do; During the first spell the Temnka captain had the misfortune to have his nose broken, but is now recovering.

At a general meeting of the Hardware Athletic Club, held at the Clarendon Hotel on Monday evening, arrangements for the annual football match with Irwell on May 24 were completed. On account of some of. the hardware houses closing their wholesale branches on Saturday ie was found impossible to enter a team for the Thursday competition.
