[Pee Pbess Ashooiaion.]
AUCKLAND, Mat 11.
The Mayor of Onehunga to-day received a telegram from the Hon W. P. Reeves, asking if notice had. been given of the intention to fix a day for the weekly halfholiday for shopkeepers. The Mayor telegraphed back that this had not been done, whereupon Mr Beeves telegraphed suggesting that the Mayor should fix a day. The Mayor declined to do this, but will leave it to the public meeting or tho burgesses of Onehunga to fix a day for the weekly half-holiday.
This afternoon most of the shops in the Karangahape Boad were open as usual, and the ordinary amount of business appeared to be doing. In Queen Street, however, the majority of the business establishments were closed. During the afternoon Inspector Ferguason made ' a round of the shops in Queen Street, Karangahape Boad and Poneonby, and took a note of the establishments open.''
