Presentation.
The members of the Christchuroh Amateur Swimming Club, to the number of about twenty, assembled at the Clarendon Hotel on Saturday evening for the purpose of presenting the honorary treasurer and handicapper of the club (Mr E. A. England) with a memento of their appreciation of his past services. Dr B. M. Moorhouse occupied the chair, and Mesara G. Harris, A. Francis and J. Isbister (vice-presidents) and three officers of the Bichmond Club were also present. Mr Franois, the founder of the club, in a few well-chosen words referred to the services Mr England had rendered to the club during tho past thirteen years, and, on behalf of the members, presented him with a gold ring, which bore the following inscription : — " E. A. England, from | Christchurch A.S.C., 1895." Mr England's health was drunk with musical honours. Mr England suitably returned thanks. The other toasts were:— "The President," proposed by the Captain (Mr J, M. Watson) and acknowledged by Dr Moorhouse, and "The Captain." The proceedings were enlivened by songs by Dr Moorhouse, Messrs G. J. C. Smart, A. Brabner, G. Allen, and G. Milne, and reoitations by Mr H. L. Armitage. Mr E. A. England played the accompaniments.
