Masonic— At the monthly meeting ot tha Ashley Masonic Lodge, Bangiora, nelw on Thursday evening, Bro G. F, PmitlrJ S.W., was elected W.M. for the oomingj year, and Bro A. B. Blackett was reelected treasurer. The Finance Committee' wss appointed, and arrangements were made for the installation of offlosrt. Rolliston School CoHMrma—TEe' usual monthly meeting of the Eolleston Bchool Committee was held on Thursday; evening ; present— Messrs Noedham (chairman), Newton, Harris, Bennie and Farrel). The master's report for the month showed the number on the roll to ba 54, the average attendance being 34*5. The report was 1 considered very Batisfaotory. The som of 4s was passed for payment and the meeting closed.

Band or Hope.— Tbe monthly meeting of St George's Band of Hope was held in tho Temperance Hall, Kirwee, on Monday evening. Mr J. W. Bslgrave presided, and upwards of 140 members ana visitors were present, A very attractive programme was successfully carried out by Mrs Croskill, Misees Cowan, Croskill, Drummond (3), Pairbairn and Lilley, Messrs Cowan, Dixon, Belgrave, Finlay, Goodwin, Hitchens, M'Lelland, Oakley and Simpson. Misses Croskill and Meredith acted as accompanists.

Ashbubtok Riplb Cmtb.— The match for the championship of this Club was fired on Thursday afternoon. The conditions were seven shots eaoh at 200, 300 and 500yds, the highest soorer to hold the champion onp for the year and receive £1 cash, the seoond highest scorer to receive 12s 6d and the third highest scorer 7s Gd. The following are the soorea of the three prize-winners :— 8. Salek 200yds 30, 300yds 19; 600yds, 20, total 69; B. Donn 22; 21, 18, total 63} J. Wilson 28, 10, 23, total 61.

Mutuaii Improvement. — . The Ashley Mutual Improvement Society held a very suuceußaul "social" in tho schoolroom on May 3. At a meeting held on Thursday evening papers were read by the editor, Mr J. Voss, on " How to Bead a Book," "Gloves," "Old-age Pensions/* "Bsrly Ei img," " Visit to the Kaiapoi Clothing Faotory," "Donkayß," "Ashley Market Beport" and "The Last Social.* Mr W. G. Whiteside, the president, oooupied the choir.

Temuka " Frebbyteman Cmracs.— -A bazaar in connection With this ohnroh took place on Thursday. In spite of the rain, the attendance in the evening was very. good. The Btalls looked very well, and were ably managed. The evening was taken np with a promenade concert, which consisted of songs and gloss by the members of the choir. The Bev Mr Diokson thanked those present for their attend-; ance. The bazaar was very successful, a net pr-fit of JBSO being tha result.

Pbebkntation. — A very large gathering asremblod in the Kimberley schoolroom on Wednesday evening to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs Hugh M'Clelland and family, who' aro leaving the distriot. Mr 0. M'Oanslandi we a voted to the chair. Mr Hayraan, after referring to the esteem in which Mr aad Mrs M'Clelland were held in the district,! presented them with a handsoms dinner! service and valuable Egyptian water jog, and tea-tray. On behalf of the Bible Christian Church, the Bev J. G. W. Elite then presonted them with an illuminated' address. Mr M'Clelland suitably replied.

Tkmp*ueton.--A very enjoyable entertainment was provided in the Bible Christian Church, Templeton, on Thursday , evening. Addresses ware delivered by the Eevs J. Orchard, Ginger and Ellis j songs were contributed by Misses Watson, Eyan and Orchard, and Messrs S. and M. Orchard. The Misses Wallace and Beynolds and Master Fanlkner gave several! recitations. At the conclusion of a capital programme, tea and coffee, with the turaall edibles, were served to the audience by; Mesdames John Voice, Overend, Watson, Marigold and Ellis. The social was a great success in every way.

FAsuws-cn *• Social."— On Wednesday, evoning the residents of Brosdfields gave a farewell ■"social" to Mr and lira Dunnett, who have had charge of th« school for over ten years- Mr Dnnnet^ has recently been appointed to the charge of the Hornby school. The "social": took the form of a sapper and dance* Upwards of one hundred guests, inolnding many friends from a distance, sat down to supper, which was liberally provided by the ladies of the district. Sapper concluded, Mrs Dunnett was presented! with a handsome silver teapot and silver cruet as a slight token of the esteem tai which she was held in the distriott Mr Leslie, chairman of the School Committee* made the presentation. Mr M. P. Byan* then presented Mr Dunnett with • handsome silver-mounted pipe as a mark of respeot and esteem from the residents; During the intervals between the speeohea songs were given by Mrs Leslie, Messrt Freeman, English, W. Cookson and Ji. Ryan. Mr Dunnett suitably returned: thanks on behalf of Mrs Dunnett and! himself. ,

Haewa-edbn.— A deputation from the Roman Catholic congregation waited upon tho Bev Father Treacy at the Presbytery, Harwarden, on Tuesday last, to present him with an address and a purse of; sovereigns on the occasion of his leaving fcr a tour of Australia and New Zealand. The address, whioh was Bigned by Marian E. Lance, Richard Wright, James Butler, John Hayes, Joseph Hoban, Cyril T< White, and about sixty others, expressed heartfelt Borrow at the reverend gentleman's departure, which was necessitated by the partial breakdown of his health after years of arduous labour in attending to a very large and scattered parish- Th* signatories further expressed their gratitude to Father Treaoy for his oare for their epiritural welfare and hiß zeal and sneoeu in imparting religious instruction to th* young; and, in conclusion, they begged his acceptance of a purse of sovereigns as tangible evidence of their feelings. Father Treacy suitably acknowledged the presentations. On leaving Harwarden on Thursday, he was the objeot of a popular ovation, a large number of people being at the railway station to Bee him off.

CONOKET AT LITTLE RIVEBV—A COQOert was held in the Maori HaU, Little Biver, on Tuesday evening, for the benefit of Mr James Chapman, who recently lost Jbii right hand through an aooident at the) Terawera Sawmills. The hall was crowded. and a large number were unable to gain admission. Mr W. H. Montgomery 1 M.H.E., presided, and referred to tha j sympathy felt throughout the distxiot j for the unfortunate young man. A capital programme was provided, and ! most of the items were redemanded. Song* were given by Mrs Wright, Miss Buchanan, and Meßsrs Belmer, Hutchinson, Hilbert, Myers and Sands; glees by Mrs Wright. Miiß Morrow, and Messrs E. Coop and 8. Harris ; and a dnet by Miss Buohanan and Mr Hutchinson. The accompaniments were played by Misses A* Coop and H. Buchanan and Mr Warren. The Terawera Minstrels contributed two amusing items, the principal parts in which were taketti by Messrs Sands, Belmer, W. Chapman, W^ Davis, Meyers, It. and H. Smith, and &, Brittmere. The musical parts were supplied by Messrs E. Coop, Humphreys and! H. Smith. The scenery provided for they occasion was the work ot Mr Sands. Tht» proceeds from the concert, and dance which 1 followed, amounted to about £82.
