Ordinary Meeting.

The ordinary meeting was held at three o'clock, the above-named members being present, with the addition of the Bight Eev Dr Julius and the Hon J. T. Peacock. NOTICE OF MOTION. Mr Westenra, on behalf of Mr Beetham, gave the following notice of motion for' next meeting:— "That _ a Finance Committee be appointed, to which all questions involving finance be referred before being dealt with by the Board." LEAVE OF ABSENCE. Mr John Anderson, jun., applied for leave of absence for Bix months on account of absence from the colony. On the motion of the Hon W. Montgomery, the request waß granted. RESIGNATION. Mr T. S. Foster sent in his resignation as a member of the Board. The resignation was accepted, Mr Weston remarking that Mr Foster had been tbe first master of a primary school to be elected to the Board, and that his resignation was a matter of regret. It was decided that nominations to fill the vacancy, should be received on June 9, and tbat the election, if necessary, should take place on June 23. A PRESENTATION. Dr Dendy wrote, stating that Captain Hutton had presented to the Biological section of the college a very valuable binocular microscope. A vote of thanks waa passed to Captain Hutton for his gift. Mr von Haast asked what had become of the telescope presented by Mr Townsend. . The Chairman said that it was lying by, and would, he hoped, be shortly erected. There was £1000 in hand for that purpose, and the College would soon be in possession of the use of that instrument. BEFOBTB. The Chairman reported that Mr Bayne had taken charge of the Agricultural College on March 28. The Chairman also reported the fire at the house of the librarian. The Bishop of Christchurch moved—' " That a vote of deep sympathy be passed with Mr Strong in his sad loss through the fire." This was carried unanimously. AN OFFEB. Messrs Strange and Co. wrote, under

date February, to the School of Art Com.mittee, offering a series of prizes, of £10, •£5, £3, £2 and £1, for designs, made by scholars in the school, suitable for floorcloth. New Zealand flora to be a special feature. This letter was now submitted to theßoard. It was decided that the School of Art Committee should first consider tbe advisability of accepting such an offer. Mr Bhodes eaid that the offer was a very good and n roper one, but the wisdom of accepting it should be considered. THE TECHNICAL COLLEGE. The chairman said that Messrs J, H. M'Laren and Company, engineers, London, had sent advice of the shipment by the lonic of the experimental engine ordered some time ago for the Technical College. The strikes had delayed the firm, but the order had now been completed, and the apparatus would shortly be erected in the college. (Left sitting.)
