BOARD OF GOVERNORS.

Special Meeting. A special meeting of the Board of Governors of Canterbury College was held at half-paßt two this afternoon ; present — The Hon W. Montgomery, Captain Garaia, Messrs T. S. Weston, H. von Haast, H. E. Webb, E. Weetenra, A. E. G. Ehodes and T. D. S. Neave. Mr B. Beetbam sent an apology for absence. The business of the meeting was to elect a chairman for the remainder of the term vice Mr F. de 0. Malet, resigned. Mr Westenra moved—" That Mr H. E. Webb be elected chairman." This waß seconded by Mr Weston. The mover and seconder spoke in eulogistic terms of Mr Webb's previous services as chairman, and the motion was unanimously carried. Mr Webb then took the chair and thanked the Board for electing him. He wa3 quite aware that the position was no sinecure, and he hoped that he would be able to satisfy the Board by his services. The Hon W. Montgomery moved — " That the best thanks of this Board be given to Mr F. de C. Malet for his administration of the affairs of the Board as chairman, and for his constant devotion to the interests of the various departments under its control since his election to that position in October, 1885." This was seconded by Mr von Haast, supported by tbe chairman, and carried unanimously.
