HIDES AND SKINS.
New Preserving Process. A Napier correspondent sends some particulars of a new process of curing p* Its, hides and skina, which two citizens of Napier have just patented. The present process involves the use of sulphuric aoid and salt, the former ingredient coating £20 per ton, and casks are needed for packing the prepared goods for exportation. The new patent does away with theßO expenses by preparing skins, &c, so that they can be packed in bales. The patentees engage to prepare and pack in pressed bales of 500 sheep pelts, or 150 ox hides or 3CO hides of mixed cattle, for £2 23 per bale. The patentees paint skins, hides, &c, with their solution ao soon as they are removed from the animal, and let them dry and afterwards be dealt with. They state that 2000 sheepskins can be treated with a 30s tin of the Eolution. Cats and wounds in man and beast can bo healed with the solution, and for the shearing shed it is claimed to bo invaluable. The patentee is a Mr Harrold, a veteran analyst, and his partners in the patent are Mr Vereehaffelt and Mr G. W. Proctor, The modus operandi is simple enough, and the success of the preparation is evident.
