The Lyttelton Regatta.

The final meeting in connection with the late regatta at Lyttelton was held on Friday night. The chair was occupied by the Commodore, Mr F. Waymouth, and there were present Messrs J. Joyce, N. C. Schumacher, -J. Thompson, J. H. Collins, A. Rhind, G. Laureneon, W. F. Mitford, F. Page, C. Ferrier, T. Field, H. Field, W. G. Shepheard, C. Asohman, J. T. Brice, T. L. Smith and G. A. Lewin. Correspondence was read from the captain of the Union Rowing Club, pointing out that in the Junior Single Sculls the club's representative Minifie had been disqualified by the referee for turning the wrong flag, whereas he had turned the right flag. A discussion ensued, in which the. unanimous opinion was expressed that, under the rules of boat* racing adopted by the New Zealand Rowing Association, under which rules the race in question was conducted, the committee had no jurisdiction over the referee. Eventually the following motion, moved by Mr C. Ferrier and seconded by Mr A. Rhind, was carried : — "That, in reference to the letter from Mr Kesteven, under date Jan. 4, he be informed that the question raised therein is outside the jurisdiction of this commit' ee, in accordance with clause 16 of rules of racing as adopted by the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association." The honorary Treasurer, Mr T. L. Smith, submitted a balance-sheet of the late regatta, from which it appeared that the meeting had been a financial success, there being a good balance to credit. Accounts to the amount of .£125 2a Id were passed for payment. The Commodore briefly referred to the very successful regatta which had been held, and said he was sure that the Committee would be pleased to know that it had proved a success financially. They already knew that, favoured as they were with fine weather, ' the many thousands of people who had vißited Lyttelton on Jan. 1 had been well pleased with their outing. Their honorary treasurer, Mr Smith, was deserving of the utmost credit for the very satisfactory position in which they stood financially. j The other officials who had worked so hard in the same direction were likewise to be complimented upon the very successful result of their exertions. The Mayor of Lyttelton (Mr J. Thompson) said he had been desired, as representing the town, to move that a sum/ of JEIS 15s be voted to the secretary. The motion was seconded by Mr Ferrier, and carried. It was resolved to convey the thanks of the committee to the railway authorities for the very complete arrangements which had been made for the transit of the large number of, people who had visited the port on regatta day, special mention being made of the services rendered by Mr Ashley, etationmaster at Lyttelton, who had assisted the committee in providing increased facilities for working the regatta. Hearty votes of thanks were accorded to the timekeepers, starters, judges and referee for the very efficient manner in which they had carried out their duties. It was decided to forward £2 2s each to the funds of the Fire Brigade and the Naval Artillery, in recognition of the services rendered by these bodies to the committee. A sub-com-mittee, consisting of the commodore, vicecommodore, treasurer, and secretary, was appointed to convey to Captain Falconer the committee's thanks for his services in connection with the 'explosion at the regatta. On the motion of Mr Brice, seconded by Mr Schumacher, a vote of thanks was accorded to Captain Clark, harbour-master, and to Mr C. Aschman, assistant honorary secretary, several of the committee speaking of the very valuable services rendered by the latter gentleman. This concluded the business, and the commodore invited the committee to partake of light refreshments. At a later Btage of the evening the healths of "The Commodore, Mr Waymouth," " The ViceCommodore," " Secretary and Treasurer," and "Assistant Secretary" were duly
