A large and enthusiastic meeting of the I Women's Section was held last night in j the Temperance Hall, which was densely ; crowded. This was the first political i meeting of enfranchised women held in ! New Zealand. Mrs W. P. Beeves was j voted to the chair, and stated that the business was ' the election of officers and ! Committee, selection of candidates, and j other matters. Mra W. P. Beeves was; elected President, Mrs W. W. Tanner j Vice-President* and Mrs Garmson Secretary. A Committee of thirty was appointed. The officers returned thanks for the honour conferred upon them, and short addresses were given by Mesdames Beeves, Tanner, Bichmond and Garmson. The last speaker strongly advised the women to sink all minor questions and return men pledged to work for the good of the greatest number, and warned the women of Christchurch against interfering in any way with the present Education Act, or of being led away by people with one idea, whom she denounced as traitors to the Liberal Party. The Hon W. P. Beeves and Messrs W> W. Collins andE. Sandford were selected as the three candidates to be ran by the Association for Christchurch. The Committee agreed to meet at 3 p.m. on Friday in the Temperance Hall, and the inaugural meeting of the women's section closed.
