The Legislative Council
TO THE EDITOE. Sibj — The utterances of the Hon W. F. Reeveß and Messrs Hogg and Sandford will Burely indicate who are on the Hide of social reform and who are not. It io monstrous that every attempt mado to benefit the people in the popular Chamber should be crushed in the Council, and no real arguments advanced as to the attitude taken up by the autocrat* of the Coanoil. Nothing Bhort of the abolition of the Upper House will satisfy the people. It is a ÜBelesß and costly ornament, and tbore is no reason on earth why it should any longer exist, as it continually blocks alt useful legislation. If the people would only rouse themselves and raise up a great agitation for its abolition, they would soon Bee better timea, prosperity and froadom from coercion. The land must revert baok to the people, and arbitration on Labour disputes must be compulsory, A State Bank is also urgently needed for the safety and welfare of the people. All the large centres are full of" surplus labour, and the keen competition for billets tends towards low wages reduced spending power and inevitable pauperism. Let the people unite and insist on tho land being cut up for bond fide settlement, with the State as the onlyflandlord, and the towns will be relieved of the overplus of workers, and prosperity will be the result. Electors don't be deceived by any aide issues. Tho candidate, whoever he may be, who has ft consistent Liberal programme to submit to • you and who is a genuine working man's representative, give him a block vote, but beware of wolve3 in sheep's clothing ; don'O sell your birthright for a tneßS of pottage either in the chape of beer, banquets or donations to Athletic Clubs. They are only political eopß which you may have ultimataly to pay dearly for. — I am, ,&c. RADICAL.
