Sydenham.
i The monthly meeting of the Sydenham ! School Committee was held on Tuesday present— Mr E. Jones (Chairman), Messrs W. Brew, J. Forrester, A. Hertzell, F. C. Hall, W. Jacques, J. L. Scott and S. Wilson. Nine applications for the position of assistant teacher were received from the Board of Education, five of the applicants being recommended by the Board. On the motion of Mr Hall, seconded by Mr Scott, it was resolved — "That the applications be not considered, but ! returned to the Board," owing to the Board not complying with the recommendation of the Committee, viz.—" That a , male or female teacher be advertised for." An amendment, moved by Mr Forester, seconded by Mr Wilson—" That the applications be considered " — wa3 lost. Messrs Jones and Scott were appointed a deputation to wait on the Board's Building Committee for the purpose of getting a suitable room at the school for the head master, similar to that provided at the other large schools in- the district. Mr Hall gave notice to move at the next meeting—" That the school be worked as a mixed schoql after the Christmas holidays." ■
