BANKRUPTCY.
fPEB PBSSB ASSOOKiTIIIir.I WELLINGTON, Oct. 3. Alfred Joseph Kirk, storekeeper, late- of Hawera, was arrested this afternoon on a charge of fraudulent bankruptcy. Five informations have been sworn by the Official Assignee. The charges brought against Kirk are— (l) Preparing to quit the Colony with JS2OO in his possession, and with intent to defraud his creditors •* (2) failing to keep proper books of accoont within three years prior, to Mb bankruptcy; and (3) wilfully omitting to keep proper books or accounts with intent to conceal the true Btate of his business affftirb. Kirk was brought up for examination before the Official Assignee this afternoon, when, on the advice of his solicitor, he declined to answer any questions. The Assignee said there were several matters as to which he required information, and he would probably apply to the Judge aa to whether the debtor could not be compelled to. answer. Oct. 4. It is only intended to. proceed with one of the five informations, preferred against the bankrupt Kirk, in order to obviate the necessity of witnesses ait. a distance attending more than once.. The case will be heard this afternoon..
