Christchurch City Guards.

♦ The annual distribution of prizes and " social " in connection with the Chrißtchurch City Guards were held at the orderly-room last evening. The room was nicely decorated with flags and evergreens. Captain Massey occupied the chair, being supported by ex-Captain Blehop, Major Wolfe, Corporal Bergh and Lieutenant Baker. Ex- Captain Biehop presented the prizes won by the members last season. The challenge belt and firefc grand aggregate prize, given by Messrs Ashby, Bergh and Co., were won by Sergeant J. Ashton. The second grand aggregate prize, presented by Major Wolfe, was won by Corporal Joll. The other prize-winners were as follow : — Sergeants Whitmore and Hooper, Corporal Butchor, Privates Jack, Truscott and Vivian. The two silver medalß presented by Captain Massey for drill were won by Colour- Sergeant Steere and Sergeant Ward. The latter also won first prize in the Squad Competition, Corporal Butcher being second. An honorarium of £2 23 was votad to ColourSergeant Steere for past services as Honorary Secretary. A number of tcasts, including "The Queen," "Donora of Prizes," " Captain Massey," "Lieutenant Biker," " The Non - Commissioned Officers," "The Privates," and "The PreEß " were proposed and duly honoured. Songs were given by several members, and a very enjoyable time wag spent by all. Captain Massey stated that owing to busiBineßS affairs he would have to resign his position at the end of the year.
