Attempted Suicide.

» An elderly man named John H'Kay, a well-known resident in the Sefton district, attempted to commit suicide on Monday by cutting his tbroat with a razor. He left Mb home at ten o'clock in the morning, and, as he did not return to dinner, his wife thought he had gone to a relative at Rangiora. He did not turn up in the evening, and Bhe then became alarmed and instituted a search for him. It was not until yesterday morning, however, that he waß found beside a straw stack in a neighbouring field, covered over with straw and with his throat cut. He was alive and Dr Clayton was summoned from Eangiora. The doctor found the wound to be a serious one, but the man's neck being very fleshy he had not cut deep enough to reach the main arteries. He informed the doctor that he committed the deed some distance away, in some broom, and afterwards walked to the stack and covered himself over with straw. The doctor is of opinion that the man will recover if no serious results from the night's exposure arise. He is seventy-one years of age. No cause is given for the iash act.
