SWIMMING.

♦ MEETING OF DELEGATES. A meeting of delegates from the various Swimming Clubs in Canterbury was held at the Clarendon Hotel last evening, to consider matters in connection with the sport; present — Messrs Qt. J. C. Smart (local consul to the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association), in the chair, A. Francis (Asbburton), J. M. Watson (Christchurch), A. Duncan (East Christchurch), J. A. Caygill (Sydenham), W. H. Chessman (St Albans), and George Milne \ (Richmond). An apology for absence was received from Mr H, S, Hiskens (Ly ttelton). Letters W6r e read from Mr E. W. St Clair, Hon Secretary of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, Auckland, in reference to a water polo championship banner, the swimming championships of 1893-4, and compilingthe "Annual." He stated that a team of about ten Sydney swimmers would compete at the Championship Meeting to be held at Auckland in January next. It was decided to suggest to the Association a form that the water polo banner should take ; that the "Annual " should contain a short history of all amateur swimming clubs and the winners of all races held since the formation of the Association ; and to ascertain whether the water polo championship of 189* would be Club or Provincial. A discussion took place in regard to holding an inter-club aquatic carnival on the Estuary early in December, the programme to consist of long-distance events. It was decided to ask the Clubß in Canterbury to appoint delegates to attend a meeting to consider matters in regard to carrying out the carnival; also to arrange date 3 for holding aquatic gatherings and sports meetings, so as to avoid two Clubs holding sports meetings on the sania date. The question of erecting a public bath in the centre of ' the city was discussed at considerable length, but nothing was decided upon. The 1 matter of transferring the head-quarters of 1 the New Zealand Amateur Swimming ; Association from Auckland to Christ- ; church was discussed. The delegates : decided to leave the matter over for the present. After disposing of some minor 1 matters, the meeting closed with a vote of 1 thanks to the Chairman.
