Riccarton Training Notes.

Thursday. { Eain fell during the early hours of the morning, and the tracks at Eiccarton consequently presented a very sodden appearance. All training operations were confined to the outside of the grass gallop, and there some fairly interesting work was accomplished. Kapua and Mutiny were first to commence, and after they had jumped the hurdles Kapua negotiated four rounds steadily, while Mutiny covered half that distance rather faster. Justice, Moltke and St Barhe covered two rounds I steadily, after which Justice and St Barhe were schooled over the hurdles. The Idler covered two rounds at half pace, and Eetina after cantering one round galloped another atastrongpace. Melusina strode once round . at a fair pace, while Clyde accomplished steady exercise, and Victrix and Jack . negotiated two rounds steadily. Eebel galloped twice round at rather more than j half pace, while Waterbury, who appears a | trifle light, covered three rounds at a Bimilar rate, and Tiritea four rounds at three-quarter pace. Solomon galloped twice round at h good strong pace, and Specton half that distance slowly, hut Empire was restricted to long cantering exercise. Jos Sedley covered two rounds steadily, Bloodsucker half that distance at a strong pace, while Vogengang and Shelah were associated in steady work twice round. Clarence had the assistance of Jaffa for the first half, and of Eadical in the second portion of a strong gallop over two and three-quarter miles. The Grand National horse moved freely, but appeared distressed on pulling up, and Eadical certainly appeared to hold him safe during the last quarter of a mile. Gondolier was schooled over the hurdles, while Wayland, Balquither and Master Eoyal, after cantering one round, negotiated another at a strong pace. Lord Hopetoun and Eoyal covered two rounds, the first Bteadily and the second at a strong pace, and Abel Tasman, who moved very short, and Essponse worked steadily. Erin-go-Bragh moved very freely in a strong gallop over two miles and threequarters, while Director covered two rounds steadily, and Norton, who appears to have derived a good deal of benefit from Ilia j gallop yesterday, performed similar exercise. Kulnine galloped three times round at a, ; pace varying from steady to strong, and the son of Cadogan, who Btruck his off knee while jumping the other morning

walked off the course decidedly lame. ! Cajolery negotiated two rounds at three- ' quarter pace, and Roseguard moved very , freely over a similar distance. Awarua Rose strode over two rounds at a steady pace, while Industry and Ronald galloped one round steadily and another fast, and a number of horses without engagements next week accomplished useful exercise.
