Correspondence was received — I From the Town Clerk, Palmerston North, asking for the support of the Council to the proposal to impose 10 per cent interest on all rates overdue more than three months. j It waa decided to reply that the Council did not see ita way clear to support the , proposal. Wilson, pointing out that some repairs were necessary to the road past his property. j The matter was referred to the Works Committee, with power to act. From H. Baker, Secretary of the Fire Brigade, asking for the use of the Colonists' Hall on Augu.t 4, on the occasion of a social gathering. The request was granted. Councillor Laurenson here entered the Toom. REPORTS, ETC. The question of planting trees on Arbor Day was referred to the Estates Committee, with power to act. He moved to that effect. j The motion was seconded by bia Worship the Mayor, and it was decided to hold a special mett'ng on Monday to fully con- j eider the matter, and also to aliow the Est iteß Committee to suggest what steps it would support with regard to celebrating Arbor Day. Councillor Laurenson moved. Councilor Owen seconded, and it was carried— " That the Estates Committae be requested to , report as to the advisability of offering ' Glasgow instead of ordinary leases to , applicants for the land above the Sumner ! road, and to make the necessary arrange- j ment3 to get lease forms printed for future use by this Council." j Councillor Webb moved and Councillor ' Schumacher seconded—" That the Lyttel- : ton Harbour Board be informed that this Council does not accept any responsibility with regard to the wooden drains across the reclaimed ground." i The motion was carried unanimously. ' Councillor Laurenson moved, pursuant to notice, viz.— "That the Council take steps to secure a room for recreation purposes for the youth of the town." The motion was seconded by Councillor Owen and carried, and bis Worship the Mayor, Councillors OweD, Laurenson, Schumacher and Stinson were appointed a Committee to bring up a report to givQ effect to the resolution.
