The Unemployed.
The Works and Beserves Committees of the City Council met this morning and decided to give ten of the most urgent cases employment, and some other men will be taken on as soon as the City Surveyor can find work for them. It was resolved only to employ married men, who resided within the Christchurch boundaries, it being thought that the other local bodies should provide for the residents in their districts. At tbe meeting of the Selwyn County Counoil this morning, it was decided, after hearing a deputation of the unemployed, to subsidise the various Boad Boards of the district to the extent of £1 for £1 up to £20, so that they might undertake works and employ some of the Christchurch unemployed.
