The New Zealanderß won the toss, and Queensland kicked off. Wilson returned, and Murray and Ellison following up fast, took the ball into the home team's twenty : five. O'Shea, however, came to the rescue, and cutting through the opposing forwards, sailed straight for the line, until Jervis capsized him. The game was confined for a time to the centre of the field and from there Butland fired the ball across to Lambie, who, with a fine run, carried the scene of play well into Queensland's territory, but further approach was checked by a pass forward. The visitors kept up the attack, and were pressing the local men hard until their forwards got on a fine rush and kept it going merrily until Butland fell on the leather, and a scrummage resulted. From this M'Kenzie, after gaining possession, ran for the line, and then passed to. Jer^is, who made a brilliant attempt to score, but was stopped by the local full-back. After some give and take play Butland and Bayly were prominent in an attack on the goal-line, and Cockroft, Murray and Larrbie swooped down, and although they got the leather across the line, by hard kicking Queensland forced. On resuming the Whites eet up a rush which was stopped by the visiting three-quarters, and Allman passed to O'Shea, who was grassed by Jervis. At this time the game waa fairly faat, and Wynyard intercepting a pass dashed through Queensland's backs and scored a try between the posts, from which Elliaon had no difficulty in placing a goal. Wilson again returned the kickout, and the visitors' forwards getting well down had the Whites in trouble, and M'Kenzie with a fine run took the ball down to the full-back, who Btopped any further advance. The Blacks were playing a hard and fast game, and the local backs had all they knew to keep the invaders out of their twenty-five. Lambie and Cockroft were continually breaking through the local forwards, and. the pair headed a fine rush, which Warbrick stopped and kicked into touch. From the line-out Ellison passed to Bayly, who, seeing no chance of scoring, handed; the leather over to Jervis, who potted a i fine goal. A series of scrummages at the halfdistance was followed by a fine Black rush, which ended in Jervis forcing Queensland down. With long kicks the local men were now working hard to get on terms with the Maorilanders, and M'Cowan had got on a good rush when Wynyard again . intercepted a pass, and the game returned to the opposite end of the field, where the home team was sorely pressed. Eventually Wcods relieved the danger j but; M'lntosh markedat thn .half; way flag, and Wilson made a fine, though unsuccessful, attempt at goal. On play resuming Cockroft headed a rush over the line, which ended in a touch-in-goal, but from a neat piece of passing from Butland on to M'Kenzie, thence to Wynyard, tho lastnamed ran in at the corner, but Wilson failed with the kick at goal. For the remainder of the firßt spell the game was confined to the local territory. In the second spell, no sooner had Lambie kicked off than Yaldwin came down the field with a strorjg run, and being ably supported by the local forwards, he was near the New Zealand line when Wjnyard collared him. Hiroa removed the danger for a time with a serviceable run, and after an exchange of kicks between the back?, Ellison and Butland carried the ball down to the local twenty-five. The Queenslanders cleared the line for a time, but Jervis again came at them, and a sciummage being formed in Queensland's quarters, Ellison passed to Wynyard, who, with a dashing inn, scored a try, from which Ellison placed a good goal. When the ball was again in play, a scrummage or two was formed, and then the ball went into touch. From the line-out M'Kenzie broke through, and passing to Lambie. the latter carried the ball on for a fewyards, eventually slipping it across to Cockroft, who scored. Ellison was again entrusted with the kick, but made a poor attempt. Wynyard fumbled the kiok-off, but Jervia relieved his side, and Butland made a magnificent run, passing all opponents but Paul at full-back. A scrummage resulted, and the ball being heeled out to Bayly he aent it across to Butland, who dashed in under the bar, and Ellison scored the major point. Yaldwin waa first to make play on the game resuming, and,' with a fine run, waa well in the visitors' quarters when Jervis brought hia advance to an abrupt end. Wynyard snapped up the ball, and Jervis, getting a neat pass, whipped over the line, and Elliaon scored another goal. M'Cowan, following up tho kick-off, got on a fine run, which M'Kenzie and M'lntoah stopped, but O'Shea, with a dodgy run, invaded New Zealand's line. Wilson stopped him, and handing the ball over to Wynyard and Bayly, the pair, with a passing rush, were right inside of Queensland's twenty-five in a twinkling, when they entrusted the ball to M'Kenzie, who scored a try at the corner posb, and Wilson made a good attempt at goal. After some fast play Munro got aw»y, but was downed by Murray, but for infringement of the rulea Queensland«was awarded a free kick, and M'Cowan had an unsuccessful shot at goal. From a line-out Ellison passed to Butland, who sent it on to Wynyard, thence to Gage, and the lastnamed potted a goal, but, unfortunately, the ball touched M'Cowan's fingers, and the score was disallowed. On resuming, the Blacks came down the field in fine style with a loose rush, and Lambie passing to M'lntosh, the latter Bhot the ball over to Butland, who Bcored a try, from which Wilson kicked a poster. A little later on Jervis missed a fine chance of scoring through over-running the ball, and time ■was called. Wynyard scored three tries, from which two goals were kicked j Butland scored two trie?, from which one goal was kicked ; Jervis potted a goal and scored a try; and both M'Keozie and Cockroft scored a try each. The game ended with New Zealand thirty-five pointß, Queensland nil.
