An Interesting Case.

[Special to the "Stab."] NAPIEE, June 30. A very interesting action is proceeding in the Supreme Court, that of Robinson (Murrumbidgee) against the Stewards of the Town and Suburban Eacing Club, two constables and the Club's Secretary. Bobinson claims £500 damages for false imprisonment. The action against the second set of defendants was abandoned. The plaintiff alleges that he was given into custody by the first aud third defendants on the racecourse for laying totalisator odds on May 24. The case is proceeding before the Chief Justice. The Court is crowded, and most of the sporting men of the district are present. Plaintiff's evidence occupied nearly all the morning, and was most diverting. The \ Court was repeatedly convulsed with laughter, the manner, appearance and phraseology of the man being indescribably funny. Unconscious humour and charming frankness were blended in his very clear and terse narratifs, which was as follows: —On May ?< he was laying totalisator odds, and was ordered to leave the course. On refusing he wa3 given into custody by the Secretary and locked up, no charge being entered. Subsequently the President of the Club, a Justice of the Peace, released him. He returned to the course and paid out to the winners in his book. The police gave evidence corroborative of the plaintiff's statement.
