The Hon J. E. Jenkinson.— The Boilermakers' Union, o£ which, the Hon J. E. Jenkinson is « member, will entertain him at a "social" at Lyttelton on Saturday evening, previous to his departure for Wellington to attend to his legislative duties. A Worthy Object. — The will of the late Mr Harry Allwright provided that the sum of £300 should be placed at fixed deposit, and the interest which it earned was to be expended on Queen's Birthday of each year in providing necessities for i the deserving poor of . Lyttelton. The interest for the first year has not yet i fallen due, but Mrs Allwright has kindly advanced the money so that her late husband's intentions should be carried j out at a time when the necessities of life : I were more required. AU denominations are ] [ included, but the clergyman and church- j wardens of Holy Trinity Church are vested with the authority of distributing • the articles, and Ipsb Saturday, when tbe ' weather" vyas so bitterly cold, a number of i deserving families, ia most instances old ' residents, were provided with a plentiful supply of blankets-.
