A SHOCKING AFFAIR.
Singular Accident. [Pan Pbbbs Association.! DANEVIRKE, June 14. A shocking affair happened here last night. A man named Willis, a nightsoil contractor, was going hia rounds when the kerosene lamp, strapped to his body, exploded. At the Baine time his horeo I bolted, and Willis, instead of attending to himself, went after the horse. Having caught the animal, he tried to take the lamp off. himself, but could not do so, and his clothes rapidly became a mass of fire. Everything was burned off him except his leggings, and he was terribly injured. He was discovered about one o'clock in the morning in the road by a man named Johnston, whose dog roused him up. Willis was <juite naked, except for his leggings, which were still burning. Johnaton took him into his house and sent for a doctor. The poor fellow was sent to Waipukurau Hospital by the first train.
