The Charge of Dummyism.

CFbb Pbbss Association.] NEW PLYMOUTH, March 14. The Land! Board, at 2 p.m., gave its decision in reference to Mr Samuel's application in the alleged dummyißm cases, that it considered it only fair that the charges should be duly formulated. Counsel for the Land Board then formulated a charge against P. H. Peace, who apparently occupied Section 2, Block 1., Ngatimaru, for his own use and benefit, whereas he occupied it for the benefit of J. F. Peace and E. O. Hendy, who supplied him with money, The defence was, that J. F. Peace had supplied money to his brother to get a section of land in order to give him a start in life. Evidence was given by H. WiChimie, surveyor, that he had done work on the land, and had been paid for it by a cheque-signed Hendy and Peace. P. H. Peace was a labouring man, and witness understood that Hendy and Peace were acting as his agents. B. O'Donovan stated that he had a conversation with Hendy as to the ownership of the seotion in question, and Hendy said it was owned by J. F. Peace, who had thousands of acres besides. Witness stated that he had given information to the Government, and was the cause of the enquiry being held. He admitted that he had been in negotiation for the purchase of the section, and that he gave information to tha Government because he believed Hendy and .Peace had humbugged him. The enquiry was adjourned till to-morrow. Mabch 15. The Land Board enquiry was resumed this morning, and is very slowly proceeding. B. O'Donovan was again examined relative to certain observations he had made relative to the section in dispute, and he was questioned by the Board regarding his endeavours to buy the section for his brother. The Manager of the Bank of Australasia produced a cheque of Hendy and Peace in favour of Climie. Two Natives gave evidence as to cutting a bridle track for Peace. Percival Peace was giving evidence when the enquiry was adjourned.
