Kaiapoi Borough Council.

The usual fortnightly meeting ( o£ the Kaiapoi Borough Council was hold, in the Municipal Chamber on Tuesday evening j present— Councillor Weßton. (Chairman) and Councillors Matthews, Hopkins, Bugg, Anderson, Butt, Lissaman and Evans.

The Clerk reported that the contractor for the bridge had not jet signed the contract, bat had promised to do bo ; also that the subscription list for the relief of the Queensland sufferers had reached no more than £5 11s 6d, owing to the different public institutions having lists of their own. It was decided to light all, the usual lamps in future, 'as several persons had complained of the scarcity of lights. It was resolved that the Clerk should write to all parsons occupying Council sections informing them that in future their rente would be expected in advance. Tenders for asphalting were opened, and, after a rather warm discussion, it was decided to hold them over till Friday night. The Clerk was instructed to interview the tenderers and obtain from them further information, to be laid before the Council on Friday evening, at a special meeting. Three applications were received for the position of sexton and scavenger, and Mi John Biohards was appointed. The receipts for the fortnight were JES 2s 6d, and accounts amounting to ,£lO4 7s 9d were passed . for payment. The debit balance at the Bank was J8555 9a4d. Loan credit 15s. .
