" LYTTELTON TIMES" COMPANY.

The employees of the Lyttelton Times Company held their pionio on Saturday at Diamond Harbour, and, despite the wretched weather, the gathering was a great success. About one hundred persons assembled at the Chrißtohuroh Bailway Station, and proceeded to Port by the 8.55 a.m. train. The party went by the John Anderson to Diamond Harbour, and on arriving at the grounds forthwith commenced to make the best arrangements for enjoying themselves. The Committee had drawn up an excellent programme of sports for the adults, and also had made provision for amusements for the children, bub owing to the rain the sports had to be abandoned. The party amused themselves with indoor games, singing &c, till lunch time, and after lunch adjourned to the dancing hall, r where the:. younger ; portion. thoroughly:' enjoyed themselves with dancing. A considerable number of: the party availed themselves of the' kind offer of the Captain of the John Anderson, and took a run down to Port Levy. After tea dancing was resumed, and kept up till 8.45 p.m.. Mr Marshall threw his house open to the picnickers, and did .all. in his power to make the affair a succeeß. Before leaving three cheora were given for Mr and' Mrs Marshall, the band .playing " For he's a Jolly Good Fellow.. \ The Garrison Band accompanied the party, and contributed in a great measure tp the enjoyment of all. Considering;, the weather, the Committee oan congratulate itself npon the success, of the pionic.
