New Zealand hemp is in fair demand, and the market is steady ; 130 bales of Wellington were sold at for good -625 ss, and for fair 4524. Five hundred and fifty cases of kauri gum were sold at the following prices: — Fine pale scraped £9 15b, scraped d&4 10s, pickings 48s. Factory butter ex Doric realised 96a to 102s, dairy ditta 86s to £48, Wool — Merino is very depressed, and prices are easier ; but brisk business is doing in crosß-breds. Svgar — German beet 14s Ofd, Java 16s 3d, marked quiet. No. 1 best Scotch pig iron 41s 2d nominally. The market is flat, and no business is doing owing to a corner in the trade. Shares in the Bank of Ireland have fallen to =£6 2s. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, has received the following cable message, dated LONDON, Fbb. 24. Frozen Meat. — Mutton market doll. Wellington mutton is worth 4d per lb. g For New Zealand! lamb there is a fair demand. Beef market firm. New Zealand beef, forequarters, is worth 3|d per lb ; other quotations unchanged. Last quotations — Hind-quarters, 4d per lb. { Tallow. — Market steady. Fine, edible mutton tallow is worth 41s 6d per cwt ; good beef tallow is worth 34s per cwt. BRISBANE, Feb. 26. The Government has decided to establish a Stock Institute, independent of the one suggested by the recent Sfcook Conference in New Zealand.
