New Zealand University.

♦ [Per Pbxss Association.] AUCKLAND, Feb. 22. The University Senate met to-day. Only five were present, but others are expected to arrive by the Mahinapua this afternoon. The Chancellor's report, which was lengthy, stated that nothing callingfor Bpecial mention had occurred during the year. The Chancellor said an amendment in the law regulations would shortly be gazetted. Freßh examiners will be appointed for English law in the New Zealand University College, so as to discontinue the appointment of examiners in England. The Chancellor thought the value of New Zealand degrees was much enhanced by the fact of English examiners being engaged. The saving by the employment of local examiners would be £140. As regards the delay complained of in a memorial, the results could not be received much sooner under the proposed change. Seventy-three candidates gave notice for the professional law examinations. Thirty candidates had passed the whole or a section of English law in the barristers and solicitors' examination. Nine candidates passed the whole or a section of the medical intermediate examination. Her Majesty's Commissioners had confirmed the nomination of the Jackson Science Scholarship, and probably of another scholarship in 1894. It was likely that students of music and, perhaps, of acoustics would increase every year, It was necessary that the Senate should prescribe fees in agriculture and engineering. The Medical Association of New Zealand recommended that all students of medicine should take a degree in arts or science before proceeding to a degree in medicine. The Chancellor commended the satisfac- j tory work of the agent, Mr Eves.
