ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
♦ PPkb Press Association.] DUNEDIN, Feb. 20. Johanna Ayson, seventy-two, years of age, was drowned in the Wyndham river to-day. She was on a visit to her daughter, Mrs Doull, and went out for a walk. Not returning, search was made, and the body waa found in the river, one hundred and fifty yards from the house. Mrs Ayson was partially blind. On examination of the boy Eoasi, who was riding Captive when he fell, it was found that his injuries were not serious. At the inquest on John Godfrey Smith, killed at Port Chalmers by a bale of wool falling on him, a verdiot of accidental death was returned. Deceased, was a native of Hobart, was 27 years of age and a. wharf labourer. A sudden death from heart disease ocourred at Clatemont, near Timaru, on Sunday. Mr George Thompson, aged 63, who has, for years past, been a regular lay worker in the Presbyterian .Church, was conducting service at the Claremont school and was' in the act of reading a text when he suddenly expired. Ab he had been attended by Dr Reid for an affection of the heart, an inquest was not necessary. The body was brought to deceased's residence at Sandietown in the evening.
