MESSES WARD AND CO.'S EMPLOYEES.
On Thursday, the employees at Messrs Ward and Co.'s.: brewery held their annual picnio at Sunaner. The party, numbering over one hundred, inoluding the wives and families of many of the employees, was conveyed from .the brewery to Sumner in some of Messrs Delamain and Co.'s four-in-hand drags. They enjoyed themselvesin various '■-■ wayß during the day, and refreshments were provided on a very liberal scale. On their return to town j they were, driven to the brewery, 'where they found the large granary; i gaily decorated, and the floor preI pared for dancing. Music was proi vided by Mr P, Mohr and his daughter, jand Master George Smith, a lad of eleven 'years, son of one of the em* ! ployees, also contributed sons* dance I niueic, Mr A. Murray played the Scotch j reels on the bagpipeß. Mr G. W«lls, the i son of another.-employee, acted as M.C Danoing and games caused the evening to pass away very enjoyably, and a supper brought the proceedings to a close about midnight. The guests, before leaving, gave three hearty cheers for their employers, who had borne all the day's expenses.
