RAILWAY SERVANTS.

A thoroughly representative meeting o£ railway employees, convened by circular, I web held at the Cbriatchurch railway station last evening, for the purpose of considering the Civil Service Bill and its probable effect on the interests of railway men. Mr B. Pilkiagton occupied the | chair. The following resolutions were passed unanimously : — " (1) That the Civil Service Bill, as framed, is altogether unsuitable for railway employees, and does not provide adequate provision for them. (2) That this meeting is strongly of opinion that the proposals for the insu- ; ranee of railway employees already pre- j sented to the Government by the Commissioners and Kailway Servants' Association, provide the only suitable and acceptable scheme. (3) That the Chairman forward the resolutions passed by thiß meeting to the Railway Commissioners, with a request that they present them to the Government and do their utmost in the interest of their employees to have effect given to them." A vote of thanks to tke Chairman [closed the meeting.
