Canterbury Rugby Union.
9 A meeting of tbe Committee of the Canterbury Eugby Union wa3 held at Warner's Hotel yesterday evening; present — Mr Gr. H. Maaon (Chairman), and Messrs T. E. Cresawell, P. T. Evans, J. S. Hawkes, T. W. Eeese (Treasurer) and T. S. Marshall (Hon Secretary). Mr Marshall moved, and Mr Evans seconded — "That Mr Harris' resignation be accepted, and that the Committee desires to express its sincere regret at Mr Harris' resignation, and aiso wishes to place on record its high appreciation of Mr Harris' services to the cause of Rugby football in Canterbury." The motion waß carried unanimously. Letters were read from the Ofcago and Wellington Eugby Unions, asking the Canterbury Union to definitely fix dates for the interprovincial fixtures with the above provinces. It was decided to try to arrange the annual match with Otasjo for Sept 14. or 15. The Secretary's action in replying to the telegram from the Wellington Eugby Union was approved. A letter was read from Mr A. J. Weekes, asking the local Union to reconsider its decision with regard to playing only Wellington, Napier, Hawera and Auckland , during the northern tour. The letter asked the team to play the Manawatu representatives on the way up to Ha went. After a short discussion, Mr Cresswell moved—-" That the Secretary be asked to communicate with tho Manawatu Eugby Union with regard to terms." Mr Hawkes seconded the motion, which was carried. On the motion of Mr Marshall, seconded by Mr Hawkes, it was decided to play the Wellington representatives on Thursday, August 25,in8tead of on Sept 12, providing the match is played on the Basin Eeaerve, the team to leave Lyttelton on August 23. The Secretary placed on the table several designs for the President's Cup. It was decided to play the match between the Merivalo and East Chriatchurch Clubs on Lancaster Park. The match Sydenham v. Cbristchurch will also be played on the Park. The match Linwood v. Canterbury College -will be played on the Oid Show Crrou_ds. It was decided to ask Mr W. J. Cotterill to act as referee in the match between the East Christchuroh and Merivale teams on Saturday. Accounts having been passed for paymeat, the meeting terminated.
