THE KAIAPOI ELECTION.
Much interest was evinced in this election, which took place yesterday. From the opening of the poll until the close traps and buggies were busily engaged in bringing up voters, and the neighbourhood of the polling booth presented a very lively appearance. The proceedings were most orderly. Several clergymen were prominent in the interests of the prohibitionists during the day, and that party had a further accession of strength in having a number of lady canvassers. As the time approached for closing the booth a good deal of excitement was shown, as it was felt that the voting would be very close* The victory was secured, though by a narrow majority, by the moderates, who returned four of their men. One prohibitionist, Mr Burnett, secured a Beat. The result, which whs declared about 8.10 p.m., was as follows :—
