A meeting of unemployed to-day reBolved to present an address to tho Ministers for Public Works and Lands today, asking their co-operation in assisting working men to take up small holdings. At the complimentary banquet to Major Steward, at Waimate, last night, there waß a large attendance. Apologies were received from the Minister for Public Works, the Minister for Landa, Sir It. Stout, and a number of M.H.R.'s. Mr T. Duncan presided, and delivered a shore address. Major Steward spoke at some length. He paid a ~ais;h. tribute to Sir 6. M. O'Rorke, the late Speaker, praised the constitution and operations of the present Ministry, hoped the people would do their best to keep the Liberal Government in power, and assist them in settling the bone and einew of the country instead of driving it toother countries, and anticipated no difficulty in keeping order in the House from tho number of labour members. Prom what he had seen last session he anticipated that any disorder that might arise would be from some of tho older members ; but he trusted that all would work together and maintain the reputation the New Zealand House of Representatives had for good order. His reception was most enthusiastic. Messrs Seddon and M'Kenzie arrive in town to-night to be preaent at a presentation to Mr T. Duncan. Major Steward occupies the chair. j
