SULLIVAN DEFEATS BUBEAE. [Special to Pbesb Association.] STDNfiT, Mat 30. The match between T. Sullivan, of New Zealand, and G. Bubear, ex-champion of England, for .£IOO a side, waa decided on the Nepean river this afternoon, and was won by Sullivan. [Sullivan made his dibut&s a professional on April 4, his opponent being Bubear. The match was for JEIOO a Bide, and took place on the Nepean. Sullivan took a lead at the start, and appeared to have the race in hand when he suddenly collapsed. He was suffering from a bowel complaint, which had attacked him about a week previously. At the time he had matches arranged with Stephenson and Dutch, and his backers decided to let them fall through unless the dates of their decision were put on some-' thing like a month, so as to give Sullivan time to recover from his illness. This was agreed to, and at the same time, a second match was made with Bubear. Sullivan met and defeated Stephenson, champion of New Zealand, on the Parramatta, on May 11, and he has shown that his defeat by Bubear was due to illness, and not to his opponent's superiority. The match with Dutch is set down for June 29, and is for ,£IOO a side, Dutch conceding ssec start, over the Parramatta course. SYDNEY, Mat 31. The sculling race batween Thomas Sullivan, the New Zealander, and George Bubear, ex-champion of England, took place on the Nepean river on Saturday afternoon. The betting was 5 to 2 on Sullivan. Both men got away well, but Sullivan gradually forged ahead, and at the end of a quarter of a mile was leading the Englishman by a length. He continued to increase his advantage, and when passing Dubbs' was quite four lengths to the good. Here Bubear began to lessen the gap, and when about eighty yards from the winning post, was only two lengths away. He then put on a tremendous spurt, and got within six feet of Sullivan, but rowed himself to a standstill. Sullivan rowed home an easy winner. Both men pulled in splendid style. No accurate time for the race is yet obtainable, but it is said to be the fastest on record. I
