Edward Sutton, of Drummond, one of a family of well-known farmers in the district, was found dead this morning, the circumstances indicating that he had committed suicide. Sutton, who was a single man, had been from home all day on Sunday, returning about 10 p.m. About a_ bour afterwards a man heard the sound of n gun-shot from the direction of Sutton'e house. This morning, as he did not appear, the door was forced, and Sutton was found dead in a pool of blood with the discharged gun close at hand. A box had been drawn across the door, evidently to prevent admission. No cause is yet assigned for the deed. AT ST ALBANS. Between twelve and one o'clock yesterday an accident happened to Eugene Fratvley, a man about thirty years of age, who was formerly a barman in Mr John Ijarrett's employ. Since leaving that employ he has been residing with his brother, Ben]amin Frawley, at Harrison's Fad dock, St Albans. Eugene had accompanied his brother to town yesterday morning for a load of coals, which they had taken home on a dray drawn by one horse. Having discharged the coals on their return, Benjamin left Eugene to feed the horse, while he went into the house. Having got some sheaves of oats, Eugene removed the blinkers from tho horse, who made a jump at this unusual course. Eugene held onto hie head, but the horeo started to run, and knocking tho man down trod heavily on his body and dragged the dray over it as well. Eugene wae picked up insensible and removed to the j house, Dr Ovenden being sent for. He recovered consciousness during the day, but the doctor, who did ail that could be done to allay his sufferings, held out no hope of his living through the night. An accident, which might have been very seriouß, occurred in Sfc Paul's Church, Fltixton, on Sunday evening, during the sermon. A chandelier carrying Bonie koroBenn lamps came down, and the oil fell on the floor and matting, igniting both. A stauipede of the congregation took place. All safely out, when three young men, Messrs Muleock, Stevenson and Bowling returned, and succeeded in beating out the flames. Much credit is due to them for their exertion. On Sunday afternoon Mr Breginshaw, o£ Leeston, drove two ladies to Springston. On his return, one of the ladies, who was sitting on the back seat, instead of getting; out of the dogcart by the step, attempted to jump down ; her dress caught, and she fell heavily on her head, and was insensible for a short time. We are glad to aay that the sufferer was much better on Monday. While out shooting with three or four companions on Saturday afternoon, a lad named John Sale, tho second son of Professor Sale, Dunedin, met with an accident owing to the accidental discharge of a pea-rifle. The rifle was loaded with ball, and Sale received the charge in one of his elbows, which was shattered. The doctors extracted the bullet and removed a piece of broken bone, and the lad is now progressing favourably.
