Ordinary Meeting.
THE COOL CHAMBER. It was resolved that the seal of the Board bo affixed to the contract by Mr Smith to erect the cool chamber. ELECTRIC LIGHT. Messrs Miles and Co. wrote, asking on behalf of tho Guloher Electric Lighting Company, that they _ii„ht have an opportunity of tendering for tho additional lighting. Beceived. It was pointed out that the Act compelled tho Board to invite tenders, and thiß was resolved to be donp. THE NEW BRIGHTON VRAM BRIDGE. Letters were received from the Government, pointing out the Board's responsibility with reference to the New Brighton Tramway bridge, and from the Tramway Company, pointing out that, though they had built the bridge, it was generally used for traffic, and was of great U3e to the locality. The Chairman showed that the bridge was public property, and it rested with them to deal with it. Mr Peryman moved — "That the matter remain in abeyance till next meeting," which was agret*d to. It was pointed out that tho Packet Company had erected a staging for the landing of passengers without first consulting the Board. The Company's attention was directed to be drawn to the matter, but no furthor action we b taken. KAIKOURA PORT. At the request of the Kaikoura County Council, Mr Derbidgo's services aB Inspector were granted free of cost. TUB DREDGE. The Chairman stated that the Dredge Committee were not ready with their report. They were in communication with Melbourne, Sydney, and eleewhere on the subject. Captain M'Clatchie said that it waa generally considered that the proposed new dredge would bo too large for Lyttelton. One about half the size would, in his opinion, be sufficient. NIGHT WATCHMEN. It was resolved that the staff of night watchmen be reduced to two, the appointment of the two men to be left in the hands of the Chairman. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £585 03 8d were passed for payment. WATER AT THE DOCK. Captain M'Clatchie asked that water should be brought down to the dock for the use of the carpenters working there. He also asked for a stretcher to be placed in readiness for use in case of accidents at the dock. He also stated that the planking ÜBed at the dock for painting, ie, waß in need of renovation.
