C.R.C. Trial Fours.
Tho Trial Fours of the Canterbury Rowing Club was rowed at Sumner on Saturday under very favourable conditions of smooth and almost still water, the tide being almost imperceptible when the race wa3 started. The crews and their positions* at the finißh were aa follow :— A. Thomas (stroke), Burns, Heywood, E. Wright (bow) 1 ; Godfrey (stroke), Poulton, Rich, Stubbs (bow), 2 ; C. E. Johnston (stroke), Papprill, E. Nicoll, Strouts (bow), 3. ' Johnston went away at tho start, and held the lead np to the corner atthe Fisherman's Hutß, where, with the, inside running, Thomas passed him, and ultimately won b_r aboutthree lengths. Johnston and Godfrey rowed a close race for second place, which, the latter secured, owi_g to Johnston stopping just before reaching the post, he being under the impression that he had got home. ,
