AMATEUR ATHLETICS.

• THE CANTERBURY CLUB. A meeting of the Committee of the , Canterbury Amateur Athletic Club was . held at Warner's Hotel last evening. , There was a good attendance, and the President, Mr P. Wilding, occupied the i chair. , The Treasurer submitted a balance- , sheet, showing a Bum to credit of £116, but of this a considerable amount will have to be expended in prizes. ', It was resolved, on the motion of Mr '•■ Styche, that the prizes for all races other than the Ladies' "Bracelet, be £2 and £1, ] less cost of engraving. The prizeß for the Ladies' Bracelet were fixed at £3 and £1. Mr Cuff brought up the question of providing an improved badge. The matter was referred to a SubCommittee consisting of Messrs Cuff, Wood, and Styche to consider and bring up a report. A vote of thanks was passed to the ladies who had rendered assistance at the Club's meeting by providing aftornoon tea, and a Sub-Committee was deputed to Belect some suitable present for them. It was resolved that a smoke concert be held after the Championship Meeting, 1 which takes place next month, when the prizes won at the last meeting of the Canterbury Club will be presented. The charge against J. Martin in connection with the Five-mile Bicycle Bace at the recent meeting was considered. Mr Croxton moved — " That inasmuch as Mr Martin has acknowledged his error in remaining on the track after being requested to leave it, and as no further charge has been made by the Club or any official, it will be deemed satisfactory if the apology made by Mr Martin be allowed to remain." The motion was carried. It was resolved to send a team to the Auckland meeting. Messrs Wilding, Cuff and Anson were appointed a Committee to select the team, and the sum of <£25 was allocated for expenses. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Lindsay, who had oome all the way from Timaru to act as timekeeper at the Club's late meeting. The proceedings terminated with a vote of thanks to the Chairman.
