Mr Charles Louisson wrote with reference to his claim to be included on the burgess roll, and giving the Council notice that he should take all necessary steps to enforce his claim. The Mayor said the letter had not been before the Finance Committee. Councillor Hopper moved that the letter be referred to the Finance Committee. Councillor Eudd seconded the motion. ' Councillor White considered the Finance , Committee were acting in a very peculiar manner. As a member of that Committee, Councillor Hopper had moved that the letter be referred to them, while he knew full well that they did not intend to make any additions to the roll till after March, or after the election in which Mr Louisson, as a brewer, had an interest. Councillor Langdown moved as an amendment — " That Mr Louisson's name be inserted on the burgess roll." Subsequently, by leave, Councillor Hopper withdrew his motion, and the matter dropped till the report of the Finance Committee was discussed. FINANCIAL. He believed that every election aboufc to be held would be contested, and the licensing one very hotly; and steps would be taken to upset them whether or no. He thought that they should defer the question, pending the attendance of the Chairman of the Finance Committee. I

The Mayor thought that it would be better if the Chairman of that Committee were present. Councillor White would like another legal opinion taken on the question before the meeting. He moved — " That another one be obtained, and that the meeting adjourn till 8 o'clock this (Tuesday) evening, when the whole question of the burgess roll be discussed."
